Greetings --
I have been with StateFarm for several years now (going back to my time in the US) and their rates have usually been better than the competition - up until now.
In the past couple of years, I decided not to switch companies for the sake of $50 or $100 a year, especially since State Farm is arguably the most respected insurance company out there - great claims payment record.
However, my renewal has come up and this time the difference is much more significant - over $350 for the year.
My question - would I be crazy to even think about switching away from State Farm, especially since there are scores of people who would pay *extra* money to get insured by State Farm.
What is the experience of seasoned Canadian Desis out here?
Next question - I am specifically interested in the reputation of two other companies - TD Insurance and PC Financial.
Are they in the same league as State Farm, or even closer?
Note that I am not looking for the "cut-rate", "fly-by-night" insurance companies - I would rather go with a highly respected company.
If anyone has any negative comments about any of the companies mentioned here, please send me a personal message or email - do not post directly on the board.
Positive opinions and/or experience with TD or PC welcome !
Thanks.

From my personal experience, please stay with State Farm. I've had ING and Meloche Monnex in Cans, while I used to have State Farm in US of A.
In 2005, when my car was hit by a person who had State Farm, while I had Meloche Monnex. Even though he was at fault, I could see the difference in the speed, and the way State Farm agent supported and followed through on his clients file, while my insurance company was a bit more laid back. The whole case was resolved in my favor based on the police report. I could see the difference in the approach and aggresiveness of the State Farm agent vis-a-vis Meloche Monnex.
If I could rate on a 100 point scale, I would rate State Farm 90, while I would meloche monnex 75 and ING 50.
This is my personal take on it.
Good Luck and God Bless !

Any other comments/opinions before I decide either way....
I need to decide by tonight.

I am in a similar boat trying to make a decision of going away from State farm. I have a quote from CAA whereby i would be saving 250$ for the year by going to CAA for auto insurance
What do experienced CD's say about that?
Has anyone had experience with dealing with CAA?
I have not heard anyone mentioning CAA on this forum.
How about PC Financial?Anything on that?
Try,
PC Financial
TD Canada trust,
Belair Direct.
You may get cheaper rates. But takes 3 weeks to get a quote. Activation is immediate upon the receipt of the quote.
All the best.
TK
Sidenote : I am not sure if CAA is better. As my car dealer once said " All insurance companies are the same. No one comes to your help in times of need/ accident. just a general statement from him.
CAA quote is available online and for me it came more than the companies listed above. So i did not bother to use it.
