N,
There is actually no real drawback in obtaining Canadian Citizenship as now india offers OCI, and you can renounce your Canadian Citizenship at any time.
The only drawback is psycological. Since you have it , the more it compels you to stay back or visit the country more often.
if you are not a n IT person or a Labourer, then Canada really is not the place to be. It is not a country for prefessionals (again this is only my view)

TK I agree with you. there is no drawback. If you like it here, take it, if you hate it leave it. Benefits can be that you can travel around 85 countries or more without worrying about getting visas etc, which is nice only if you have money which means a good job in Canada :(

I did not intend to write harshly. I was responding to your words that canadians only know 0. Where did that comefrom?
I want to learn more about the Immigrant perspective - issues problems and concerns - this is why I am here on this board.

My husband felt as you (and many others here ) do. It is a struggle because Im an employment counsellor working under Service Canada (HRDC) .. for him and I, everyday is a different learning experience and I know he learns from my perspective and I learn from his.

Good luck.

I guess you didn't read my sarcastic wit. :D I just said since last 25yrs they have been doing research etc on this problem but where are they. What have they achieved, accept wasting tax payers money on senseless debates and seminars. Still more than 60% or more are facing the same problem.

If someone wants to do something they will do it. For eg They have been talking about this new sky train line from Richmond to Vancouver or something like that. According to timelines etc it taking them more than 10 yrs to do it. Look at New Delhi. They had a full metro system running in 4 yrs and expanding it. Delhi has a population level of almost what whole of Ontario has and sq footage maybe 1/10th of it. Still they achieved it. Last yr when I was driving through Delhi, I was shocked to see so many bridges constructed in last 3yrs (that was when I had visited). To build one for Portmann out here, they are looking at 2013 even if they start of now plus put toll :D Just makes me laugh at myself that I used to consider these countries advanced in Tech.

Sorry if I offended you. that was not my purpose. I just wrote what I felt and what I see. That's my perception.

Do you see *anywhere* in my post that I said there is efficiency :D

I think some lower mainland drivers need drivers education training more than we need more bridges (necessarily) :)

One drawback, which is actually not a drawback of citizenship per se, is the exacting cost it inflicts, not so much in terms of money and effort, but in terms of self-respect and psychological impact, of finding oneself unable to cope with a system which is so unresponsive.

Such a high cost takes away a substantial part of fun out of it.

:)

if any of you have any tips , please share.
TK
sidenote: I will surely take the citizenship. I feel that it is the bonus that Canada gives immigrants who have slooged in this cold country in labour jobs for 4 years, paying taxes and living a down trodden life in Canada. The only thing that i am not sure is about the oath. Should i or not pledge my alliance/ loyalty to a mere mortal in this age where everyone is equal. I have never been born a slave and never will be a slave. I feel that the oath is a discrimination. Canada thus stands in line with Saudi Arabia which is owned by a king and his sucessors and where democracy is not allowed.
Sidenote 2 :Please note that i will not be cursing the Queen. I also donot approve the related statement found in the below mentioned post. I respect the Queen as a ruler of a sovereign country. What i said was that i donot like/ approve/ consider it ethical to take an oath in the name of the Queen and her sucessors, mere mortals.

Amen !

Even after dual-citizenship ?

Time and again in many forums it was clarified . I did as well a couple of time.
There is NO dual citizenship in India. i.e.

1. India will not allow its citizens to hold a foreign citizenship at the same time. Which means, the moment an Indian citizen acquires foreign citizenship, they need to do the surrender of passport and obtain a surrender certificate

2. For a foreign citizen of indian origin, they can obtain OCI which allows visa free travel, extended stays, investment properties etc. If an OCI wants to become Indian citizen again, there are some rule. I think they need to stay in INdia for 5 yrs and then apply for indian citizenship for which they need to surrender the foreign citizenship and show that proof etc

Hope this info helps
