It is but for an inexperienced user OR one who's buying really big/heavy things, it might not be the best choice. Most of the ads there are placed from USA. That means, the border tax hits. So when they deliver this stuff, u end up paying a lot more than you thought u would. This happens in most cases. I bought a laptop there and it didn't happen with that, but among other things I've bought was a video game set and it incurred border tax.

Also as someone previously mentioned this \"no tax\" policy on stuff bought online... well I have never heard (or seen) that before.

I buy a lot of things on ebay and sell stuff as well. Taxes are not applicable when you are buying from a private sell (This aint the law but normally nobody asks for taxes). If its an ebay store than most of them do take taxes.
One of the main reasons I buy from ebay is so that I dont have to pay taxes.
Although buying stuff from sellers in the U.S is hit and miss with the customs ...........I have had to pay sometimes and a lot of times i dint.
But even they dont charge taxes regardless of being a private sell or a store selling it becuase it is being shipped internationally.

I believe I forgot to mention that when I said 'taxes online'. I meant at the retail sites like Dell, IBM, etc. For ebay, you're right. There's no tax on goodies. The custom tax is still prevalent.

I think you have to pay taxes unless the value of imported good is leas than some amount (~40 CDN, I think).

Above that you pay GST (and PST if applicable). Depending on method of shipment customs brokerage charges apply.

Sent by USPS ----> $5 CDN fixed brokerage charge.
Sent by UPS (or other courier) Ground ------> Not sure here But about 10 %+ of declared value.

If you use Courier AIR ---> Brokerage charges are included in the shiping cost.

Check the exact figures on CCRA site.

Really it depends on the declared amount / Method of shipment.
Also good made in Non - Nafta countries attract duty.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
