Hi All,
I'm a mechanical engineer with 7+ yrs exp in design & development. I have not used CAD much in these years. I have some basic knowledge in Pro-Engineer, that's all. It has been mostly calculations, concept generation & new product development process adherence.
Being a new immigrant I'm aware that I have to start from the scratch, may be a draftsman or designer primarily working on CAD. I did see some openings for CAD people.
Which CAD package is most used in the mechanical & engineering services industry? Most of the jobs calls for solid works or Inventor. Should i take up some courses on solid works or Inventor to land a entry-level job?
And also I'm yet to land (24th Feb). Would a basic course taken in India be recognized? If I have to take courses in Canada, how much is it going to cost me and also the time involved? Do institutes organize placements during the training period or after that?
Lalitha,
Very sorry to say but with your profile, it will be very difficult to even get a entry level job in engineering field. field is too saturated with so many canadian /migrants looking for engineering jobs. It is upto you but i will suggest you to move to Alberta ASAP after you lend in Canada. Once you are in Alberta, try to do some Trainning in Drafting/Mechanical Technology in Either SAIT ( Calgary) & NAIT ( Edmonton ) . You will get job after that. Do not waste your time in GTA.
Strong knowledge of CAD and some familiarity with solidworks can get you a good junior role in GTA. I know a person with good command on solidworks and have a decent job with work permit.
