I applied in March 2004 and by March 2005 I had my PR stamped on my passport.

The reason I think for getting the PR so soon, I think, was because I was thorough with my paperwork. All documents required by the Consulate was collected and sent at once before the deadlines and as per their requirements. This coupled with the fact that interview in my case was not required. I think these are the factors that truly contribute to getting your PR faster than normal.
