Once u register, u get a real US (NY based) Landline Tel no only (no Canada nos!!). Each Tel no gets 100 Free mins/month. Once you finish the 100 mins ,you can buy a "Stanacard" to call (like a regular calling card) or, wait till the end of the month when the 100 mins are replenished back into your account. If you have not finished the first alloted 100 mins before the end of the month then you lose it.
Calling between Stanaphones (Pc 2 Pc)are free & don't use your 100 Free mins.
This service is in beta testing thats why its still free, don't expect that to stay free too long.
I have already called enough landlines in UK,France,Austria,Singapore for free - so it works, but it doesn't connect to 'Cell' phones in other countries other than US & Canada.
In '98-2000 there were a lot of cos offering similar services, but everyone of them charges now !
To cross the 100Free mins hurdle(or be a cheapie like me 
) :: Register for 2-3 Tel nos & call free for 300 mins !!!
BTW:: I don't work for Stanaphone !
HI i tried to register but i have problem that i cannot enter their given code as i cannot reload it also.

Finally managed to download it after some glitches. Now, after I start it and log in, it gives me a message "Registering on proxy". And after a few seconds I get "Service unavailable. Server is not responding"
Any ideas?
And Interceptor: I had that same problem the other day, but yesterday I was able to register fine. So try again.
This IS after all a beta version AND free so expect it to be a bit flaky.

Lobster, the problems u r facing now were probably with all of us.
I went thru Stanaphone forums and saw the same.
To register ur phone, logout completely & relogin again - It should work. I rebooted my laptop too - as this program is in the startup.
Incase it doesnt work - just wait & do it again - sometimes their server is down !
After the wonderful time all you guys might be having talking to friends & relatives in India - I'm sure you would like to continue doing the same for free.
Just noticed that Stanaphone is giving Free $2 credit to every registered number, start of every month.
Calls have been increased to All countries - not just the earlier 11 countries !!!
Have fun - though not as much as the Reliance fun !!!

When I created the account it shows only 0.10 cents credit. So looks like they have changed it quickely.
Yea bad luck abt it
