The next intake of apprentices in Toronto is in feb-march next yr.

It is very common for skilled trades people with 5-6 yrs experience to earn over $100k in a good year.

Good luck.

Mishtar India
I am a Construction Manager PMP certified (from Project Management Institute) and planning to land in Canada shortly - maybe Toronto or Vancouver.
I have heard from various sources - and this website in particular - that new immigrants need "Canadian Experience" to get a job in their field.
Is the situation the same in the construction management field too? If yes do you suggest suitable courses which I should consider taking in Canada to make myself employable in my field.
Further do you have any idea of the average salary scales of PMP certified Construction Managers.

Thanks

PMP will go a long way in compensating for not having canadian experience. PMPs are still a rare breed here in project management, but more and more large public projects require a PMP in the team, it is even specified as a prerequisite in US these days. In Canada, the trend is catching on but it is not that fast. Just do a search of PMP on workopolis and that will give you a good picture.

Having said that, i dont want to pump you up into thinking that job is guaranteed sfter getting PMP. Companies do not hand over the PM role to an untested person. Sometimes people have to grow into the position from projct engineer or coordinator level. But still your PMP will help.

Salaries vary from company to company depending on the type of project , ranging from $40k in smaller home building firms to well over $150k for large builders and larger projects, most construction managers make anywhere between $70k to $120k.

Just keep your spirits high and just keep trying . Your PMP should really help you
Good luck.

Mishtar India - Thanks for the encouraging words!
Just another small querry - How prevalent is the usage of Construction Management software - Primavera / Expedition in particular - in the Industry in Canada. Would my knowledge and expertise in using these specialized software packages be of added value ?

Thanks again for your response
