Not sure how old your kids are but if they are below 10 years then you have a choice. If you really want to give it a shot to see your kid playing professionally into one of these sports then this is the time..in fact 8 years onwards is considered late as there is very rigorous selection process to get into reputed clubs. E.g If you decide that may be my kid can play soccer, then you can put him/her into league for which you will have to go for tryouts and based on his/her skill levels club will train them. A lot of committment and little more money is involved.
Other choice is to just make him/her play some/all the sports to keep him/her active. E.g. Most of the clubs have soccer they call it as house league, where kd plays once a week and gets awarded little medal/trophy.
The reason I am giving this detail is that I accidentally put my son into one of these soccer when he was 7 years old and did not know that there is separate process to get your kid to train better in one sport. Same thing is for Hocky but more committment and lot more money. so dropped it.

I don't have kids but I suggest to those who do that they put them in swimming lessons. I hated swimming lessons when I was young because I didn't like the feeling of water in my eyes but my mother insisted. She was right. It's part of the culture here - people swim outside in the summer, having swimming birthday parties etc.
I think the drowning rate in Ontario is 3x as high for immigrants as for the general population. So swimming is a good fitness activity for children and helpful for their safety.
If you keep your kids fit now they can pick activities that interest them later, being active will become part of their life. Don't worry about training them to be professional athletes, that takes immense dedication on the part of both parent and child, just look for any affordable activity they enjoy.
