Hi

My son is 5 year old and right now he is showing good interest in books of maths, coloring, words and stories. I want to buy more books for him so he can keep interest in books.

I heard about Kumon, Is it good to pay $100 monthly for one subject?

alternate my friend suggest buy some kumon books online and give kids practice at home.

is there any more website or store where i can buy books in cheaper price because normally i bought from walmart cost me one books about 5 to 10$.

I just dont want my son to loose interest from books.

my son is almost 6 in grade 1, i bought canandian curriculum from coles /also available in costco....costs abt $ 20-25 but is quite thick. also has "smart maths" kind books for each subject.

kumon i believe is just repitition and not variety....

Try this Samko sales. I bought some books prices between $ 2 to $ 5.

My boyfriend is a volunteer at the Toronto Public Library. They offer a free reading buddy program for children. The children meet with a teenager or adult at the library and practice reading for 1 hour a week. The volunteers are all screened and trained (and don't spend time alone with the children). My boyfriend's reading buddy is a Chinese newcomer and he said most of the children are, for the most part they are not children who are behind in reading just children who really enjoy reading and want some more practice.

Anyway you might want to check if your library has a program like this. It keeps reading cool for kids!

To inculcate reading habits nothing is as effective and cheap as a library membership (its free!!) . Get your child his own card and he will have a flow of books that he likes all year round. You can also get educational dvds, and audio books. I have stopped buying story books for my kids as I find that it automatically puts limits on the amount of books the child can have around him/her at any given time. We get lots of books from the library each week instead.

For math etc you can find curriculum books at Costco, Amazon, or even Scholars Choice (http://www.scholarschoice.ca/). Scholars choice also has a great selection of other educational material. For coloring, take print outs from the web (free) or buy the dollar store coloring books to start out with. For more advanced art requirements you can also find lots of options at DeSeers (http://www.deserres.ca/en-ca/customer-service/our-stores/).
Cheers,
