I think somewhere we discussed expenses on this forum.
Baby sitting is costly, but not in the desi areas. There are many woman (especially elder ones) are doing baby sitting at very cheap ($1 to $1.5 per hour) so if you put for say 8 hours you will have to pay max $ 12 per day.
Second thing - most of the people get jobs in different shifts - you and your wife can choose different shifts and so, you don't have to put your kid for longer time - may be for couple of hours.
Getting labor jobs today is not difficult. Market is quite good at this point of time.
You may come alone, but if your wife and kids visa expires, then you should come with them.
As BL said, no one is going back after 5 years - so life is HERE. Only thing you need to know how to face it.
It seems that you are quite young. There are many people coming here in their late 40s and still settled down.
C'mon - we are here - don't worry.

Regarding money borrowing - I think most of the people will hardly use the money they bought from India, if they are willing to do Labor job from day one. If you are prepared to do that, you can borrow it and once you are here you can return them.

Whether US or canada or any other country everyone face similar situation initially unless you have a prior job offer.
People settle slowly and everything takes time.
Agar proper experience nahi tho shadhi ke baadh bi *** time lagjaa hai.. Samaj rey ho naa baath koo..

aloo...don't think you will cut wait times by applying to Buffalo...they are restricting such 'visa/forum shopping'. Given the increase in applications due to the new lower passmark, expect delays to increase everywhere...
