Hello everyone...
My family and I are planning to visit Chicago, IL in a few days but we need a few questions answered.
The problem is that my mom and my PR card expired last month, and my mom sent out an application for her renewal for PR card a few weeks ago, but hasn't received her renewed PR card in the mail yet. My PR card is expired as well, but I haven't sent out my renewal application yet.
I want to know if we travel to Chicago by car, will we have any problems on the Canadian border when we're coming back after our trip? Basically I just want to know if we have to do something special on the Canadian border on our way back since my mom will not have her PR card at all since its sent for renewal, and I have mine but its expired.
(My mom and I both have valid US visitor visas, its not the going there that I'm concerned about, its the coming back to Canada with NO and EXPIRED PR card that worries me)
All factual information about this will be much appreciated.
Thanks
I'm an idiot.
Mr Ethinic Guru, thanks for your answer but that really doesn't help me.
First of all, I know I can travel to USA and back to Canada BY ROAD with my expired PR card because I did that last month and there was no problems whatsoever.
So please, know what you're talking about before you reply. If you're not sure of what you're saying, then its better not to say anything at all as you might mislead some people.
My question is, can you do the same with NO PR Card at all, and just explain at the Canadian border that your PR card is sent out for renewal but prove that you are a Canadian Permanent Resident by showing them your landing papers??
If someone could please reply with FACTUAL information, not feelings or hunches, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks Puttoo for that link. Great job
Once again Ethnic Guru, please refrain from giving people faulty information. You might feel good about replying to someone's questions, but you misleading them by giving them completely WRONG information based on what you "think", is really unethical.
Thanks again Puttoo

I was in a similar situation last year and I was in great trouble at the border while returning back. It was too much of a harrasment. Personally I won't take any chances. But if it is an emergency, one can take a chance
