Hi, I'm not sure if this question has been asked before. tried to find the answer but couldn't find it on any of the threads.
My question is : Ive been in Toronto for the last 2 years on a work permit. Applied to Buffalo and the case was moved to New York. Now after my interview and medicals, I have received my Passport back from New York with my Visa stamped and have been asked to go to the nearest port of entry. I would appreciate if someone could let me know whether I need a US visa to go to the nearest Port of Entry which for me is Niagra or can I just cross the border and get the needful formalities done, without having a US visa?
AFAIK, you don't need to cross the border. They've asked you to go to port of entry, which is Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, Windsor or Sarnia, oops forgot 1000 Islands, all within Ontario.

Hi,
You do need to cross the border and so you will need to get the U.S visa but there is another way which is not a wise one............if you are trying to cross without a visa the US visa officer is going to deny you entry and make you go backto canada then when you are returning from there.... at the canadian port of entry they will ask for a refusal letter from the US customs taht you were denied entry and then you can get your status changed to an immigrant.
This happened to a buddy of mine and I was with him so I know. After he was denied entry to the US .............he has had a hard time getting a US visa and so that is why I insist on doing this but its your choice.
