This is deu to city budget shortfall
Ottawa is liberal land....they love bigger government.
The tax hike is because the city is wasting money on things it shouldn't be involved in, or spending on, for example: bilingualism, fine arts, ridiculous bylaws, endless consultant studies, etc .....most of which the avg property owner has absolutely no desire for, or interest in.
In new subdivisions, instead of building streets to accomodate the forecast population ... 4 lane roads....they build 2 lane roads and then keep studying and consulting for years afterwards, and on top of that it eventually costs more to widen an existing road than to build it wider to begin with. Calgary, Edmonton, and Mississauga are much better run than Ottawa, from what I have seen when living in these cities.

Would be great if you could post the source of this news?

Something told the wild geese
It was time to go
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, "Snow"
