I would be flying To Toronto in March '05. Any suggestions on the airline, because my wife and my son - 2+ years are coming along. And the question is raised because I am anxious about the food, service and related aspects - keeping the toodler in mind. I am thinking of BA or Lufthansa.

Thanks for all the replies.

Maybe somebody suggests you an airline but it does not fly to city you are coming from! I can suggest that you come by Air Canada nonstop flight from Delhi but may be you are coming from Mumbai or some other part of India or even some other part of the world!

Why go through the hassle of stop over's and changing flights at London or Frankfurt with a toddler around. You're better off taking Air Canada direct flight from Delhi - if Delhi is your nearest international airport. With March not being a busy season hopefully Air Canada prices compare favourably to BA/Lufthansa. Service wise Air Canada is fine.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for all the replies.

Up until a few years back British Airways were the absolute best in terms of service, food quality and comfort.
But I haven't flown BA in over 5 years now, but before that, whenever I flew with BA, I was always happy with the overall quality of their service.
Obviously, they were the most expensive airline for flying to North America at that time (maybe even now), but then there was no question about the superior quality of their service.

I can't say if even now they have managed to maintain the same quality of service or not in the midst of the crisis that the airline industry has been in recent years.
Maybe someone who has flown with them in the past 2 - 3 years can comment.

In terms of food quality, anything operated by Delta airlines will have very poor quality and quantity food.
I flew a Delta/Air France combo from the US to India 3 years back and the difference in food quality was very noticeable - Delta fed the passengers on very sub-standard, insufficient food, whereas Air France was top quality.

I have also heard that Air France is more toddler-friendly and will often accomodate additional requests by parents.

I have no experience with Lufthansa, KLM or Air Canada as far as service quality goes.

Raj, Daks and Pratickm,

IMO, Raj's reply is very good - without being blunt, he has pointed out a very important aspect of the post put in by minipapa. The post does not even mention where is this family located and want to fly from. How can anyone give advice without knowing the expected origin of the flight?

I do agree that from the post it seems that the family is in India (but what state?) and perhaps travelling international for the first time, but then it could be someone from middle east who has not travelled much and so paranoid about flying with a toddler that he has put up a question without caring to give the details of origin.

My personal view is that in such cases, it is either better to not give any advice (since it might not be useful atall to the person seeking advice), or before giving one, ask him the details necessary for forming an educated advice.

Having travelled a lot myself - I still would not like to advise on this issue due to lack of necessary info.

I inferred from the question that the poster is willing to take connecting flights and/or pay a higher price in order to get better service during the flight.

So if this person selects a particular airline based on the quality of service he desires, it is not that big of a deal to take a local IA or Jet Airways flight to the point of departure.
Or even good ol' Indian Railways for that matter :o

I personally have sometimes flown a more expensive airline (BA) or taken a local connection simply in order to fly the airline that I wanted.
On the other hand, when flying cheap, I have also taken extra connections to get the price I wanted.

Maybe I am wrong in my assumptions about the poster.

I agree he should have provided more information about his city of origin and travel budget - after all, one can take only so many connections and sometimes it is simply too much trouble to fly a particular airline, even if it is the best in the world.

IMHO, of course :)
