hi all,

I really don't get this concept....I work as a software developer in US and on H1B Visa..I recently got my Canadian Immigration and planning to land in 2nd week of September..I have a question to ask and will be delighted if any one can share their experience or any advice.....

I have to come back to US in a week after landing in Canada...However I wanted to shuttle b/w US and Canada every week..( I mean I wanted to stay in Canada in Weekends) if I do this ...will that count as I stayed in Canada for 3 years ( for applying for Canadian Citizenship ????)...

Can any one advice me on this matter....

Do I have to stay in Canada for 3 years ( day -to-day )...or I can visit Canada in weekends and still be eligible for the Canadian Citizenship after 3 years ( while shuttling )...

Thanks for the reply...

thanks

krishna

Hey Krishna

By shuttling on weekends you make 2*52*5 = 520 days in 5 years and you would also lose your PR . Forget about citizenship dude ..

Choose a country and stick by it whichever that may be..

Though it says like that, actually you can get citizenship in some cases. I have a guy working with us from Pakistan and he got his citizenship in 5 years. Out of this 5 years he stayed in Canada for only total 2 years. However his family stayed here for all the times and he did bought a house within first year of landing. Those were enough proofs from him that convinced the judge that he is willing to make Canada his home and so he got citizenship.

In Case of H1 and working in USA, may be you can keep paying taxes here, keep your family here, buying a house and finally before applying citizenship giving up H1B and staying here for atleast a year could help you.
