My current project was unexpectedly cut short and now my employer is indicating that I should consider going back to India or trying to find other jobs in Canada. I would like to work here for some more time.

I did a job search and got a call but the interviewer told that they cannot give a job offer without changing my work permit. When i checked in immigration site, they mentioned i need a new job offer to change my work permit. It looks like a chicken-egg situ to me :(

I dont have much time left with my current project, so i need help fast.
Please let me know what I can do and whom I should contact to change the conditions of my work permit?

Should i apply for a new

First thing based on what I have experienced in Canada, some the employers including some of the top notch sectors, most of the employers are ignorant of the laws. So first thing you can do is just head straight into Service Canada office and ask them about the options available. Try to grab as much information from them. Do not ever put 'Work Permit' word on resume or during initial interviews. If you come to know the rules that you can use to strengthen your case just hit it at the right time. Say for example when your potential employer gives you job offer, just tell them that they just need to fill some work permit forms for which you will assist them. (You have to do your homework if you want to play this on your own..but its not difficult)

If things don't work out then seek help from a 'knowledgeable' immigration lawyer...I repeat 'knowledgeable'. Get info from desi's in your city who are on work permit eventually they might give you some info.

PS: Getting and filling employment, Unemployment, Visa or any government forms in Canada is much friendlier and easier than any other Country in the World.

you have zero chance of getting a job through another employer with a new work permit, your only option is to get your current job somehow extended

Dude, which world are you in?

Getting work permit involves several steps not just filling a few forms. Many companies will not wait for the length of time it takes to get a work permit unless the candidate has a rare skill that they can't find in the local market.

Probably the rules for federal issued work permits might be different compared to PNP issued work permits as I have seen recently seen for a friend of mine in PNP program. But I believe it changes a lot of times, I would still recommend you to check with an immigration lawyer first.

LMO approval will take more than 2 months, pls check current timeline. And then work permit approval and flagpol around border or appointment ar local cic office will take around 1.5 months.
This is based on my experience. So except you have extraordinary skillset, unknown employer would not bother to start application or wait through the timeline.
It is very very difficult, if not impossible.
And yes, pnp based wp is different scenario.
