An approach I have been trying to figure out for my Dad for sometime. I hope some of our senior desis might already be familiar with this approach. Looking for your valued input.
My Dad runs a business in Dubai. I have his immigration sponsorship approved and now we are in process of applying his PR application in Dubai. I am hoping that they may be ready to land sometime in next year.
Our preference is that we could maintain his PR without living in Canada. Below pasted link to CIC website gives 2 options. Option 1 will separate my parents so I am thinking what would be required to qualify for option 2. I am not looking to cheat the system but instead trying to understand how it works as as we are looking to start business in Canada and was wondering how best to align it with our business in Dubai so that my Dad can maintain his residency in Canada.

You will need to be working for a active canadian company doing business in canada and should be posted overseas for work purpose.
I seriously doubt starting ur own business and living overseas will get by the CIC scrutiny when time comes to renew ur PR.

The residency obligations page states the requirements the company must meet for it to be considered a Canadian business for this purpose.
If your own business can meet these requirements, then your plan will work.
Particularly, note the statement the business has not been created primarily for the purpose of allowing you to satisfy residency obligation
I'd think CIC will expect at least a few years of tax receipts, financial statements, and more than a couple of employees, before considering it a valid business.

What you have not factored in is that CIC is basically putting the brakes on parental sponsorship. Presently, the processing time in Abu Dhabi is 34 months after PR application is received and is going up by 3-4 months on an annual basis. By the time your father's PR is up for approval, it may be be another 4 years.

Hope is the name of the game. We received a letter 2 weeks ago from CIC AbuDhabi stating it will take anywhere between 18-24 months. This is probably on the safer side. I think the major increase is noticeable in sponsorship applications. Sponsorship for my In-Laws were approved within 26 months where as it took more than 39 months for my parents. The applications were submitted a year apart.
