I am new in Canada. Am here on a One Year Work Permit.
Please advice if I can drive with my International Driving Licence issued to me in India.
Or
Will I have to take a Driving Licence like everybody else?
I am here only for a Year and I understand that it takes at least 6 months to get a licence in toronto.
As per my knowledge for first few months (2 or 4 or 6) you can drive on your international license. Check Ministry of Transportation office - you can find contact numbers in the "Link" section "Useful Canadian Links" sub-section of this site.
Call them find out the truth.

u can only drive for 3 mths on ur international driving license. after that u have to get a new license

what happens?? Demerit points... on indian license?? Insurance coverage?? Can one buy a car and register with MTO having Indian Intl license???
First let me thank everybody who responded to my query. It is nice to know that I will not be alone. As adviced I went to the web and found this info on the website of Ontario Ministry of Transportation

Visiting or Moving to Ontario?
If you are a visitor to Ontario and want to drive while you are here, you must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver's licence from your own province, state or country. If you are from another country and visiting Ontario for more than three months, you need an International Driver's Permit from your own country. You should also ensure your automobile insurance coverage is sufficient.
New Residents
If you are a new resident in Ontario and have a valid driver's licence from another province, state or country, you can use it for up to 60 days after you move to Ontario. If you want to keep driving in Ontario, you must get an Ontario driver's licence. the best thing is to call some insurance companies and talk to them, it will give u a clear picture. if u can get an insurance, u can even drive!!!
but even the mto guidelines says that if u r a visitor for three months, and in your case, u r in canada for one year, that's a conflict.

yeh gaadi kitne paise mein milti hai??....sasti hai kya canada mein.???...India mein to bahut mehangi hai....petrol bhi mehenga hai(petro+kerosine mix) ajeeb bat hai.....maine suna hai ki canada mein majdoor ke paas bhi gaadi hoti hai. sach hai kya??
