Traditionally AMD Processor, in Notebooks, draws more power and hence dissipates more heat (more fan noise). I won't put AMD as unreliable but surely inefficient. Price of 2GHz AMD is comparable to Intel 1.6GHz, which in turn Price of notebooks with that specs. Remember, performance in notebook is not just Processor - it is chipset (Including Video) also that it carries.
I'll pick Intel anyday ... search for deals (coupon code) on IBM Think Pads. Normally available on RFD

I just bought a laptop a month back...Future shop is pretty good place to buy laptops..we saw almost all stores...walmarts collection is not great, same with zellers collection not good...costco have for some reasons very expensive models.....Sony store have sony laptops which are xpensive....future shops have models which are manufactured solely for them and they mid range models as well with nearly same configuration....no need to go to US....how much are you gonna save in 600$ laptop...not worth the time and efforts...
The laptop is laoded with features for that price.
