Thanks Rajiv and Maharaj. The information you provided would really help me in preparing my application. I will look for the sample invitation letter here on the site if it exists.
As for their PR application, I think it might or might not be detrimental. The reason being, it's not yet started processing in India. But, I do not know for sure. Besides, I have my own home here and job is fine as well. May be that helps.
Another question: If their visa is approved and they land here, and while they are here with me, their PR is approved too (Canadian part of the application). Would they need to go back to file their application in Delhi, or could it be done within Canada as well? Just wondering.
Let's try my luck as well .
Thanks again. Really appreciate your comments.

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
I have a similar situation. I did a single entry visitor visa for my parents based on this FAQ.
Now my situation is that when they entered Canada for the first time, they told them they were going to stay for 2 months and that date happened be 2 months before there visa expiry date.
So the office hand wrote the date from 2 months of there entry below the Canada customs stamp in there passport at the same time when he crossed out there single entry visa.
They went back to US on 22-Aug and now I want to call them here again from 10-Oct to 31-Oct. The single entry visa expires 15-Nov-2010, so the date is still within that time.
But as the date on the Canada customs stamp is 10-Sep-2010, will they be denied entry. It seems silly that they would do that when they allow so many people to come here without documents or passports and cannot even send them back.
So before I book flight tickets from US, I wanted to get opinion of fellow CDs to see if they ran into a similar situation.
The FAQ says this....the initial period authorized by the immigration office is what bothers and confuses me...does that mean the immigration office issuing the visa or the immigration office at the border. I can't imagine the officer at the border ever letting one is for a duration less than the 6 months time frame that a typical visitor visa is given for.
"There are two exceptions: you can visit the United States or Saint-Pierre et Miquelon and return to Canada without getting a new visa, as long as you:
* return within the initial period authorized by the immigration officer or
* have a valid visitor record, work permit, study permit, or a temporary resident permit (authorizing re-entry) and return within the initial period authorized by the officer."

One of my relative got visitor visa to Canada - Single Entry and he has USA- Multiple entry visa.
Because of the kind of a tour he has taken which includes Canadian Rockies and Alaska he will hv to enter Canada from USA two times. He was given to understand that even though he has single entry visa ,he can enter Canada multiple times without any problem. Is it true?
In my opinion, your parents should be fine. The immigration date stamp of Sept 10, 2010 is the date on or before which your parents are supposed to leave Canada, and they did exactly that by leaving on Aug. 22 2010.
If their single entry Cdn visa is expiring on Nov 15, 2010, they can still enter Canada (from the US, assuming that they did not leave the North American continent in between) before Nov 15, 2010. The immigration officer at the Canadian POE will again decide the date by which they will have to leave Canada.

Thanks cdn_dude,
I brought the tickets after speaking to CIC call centre and getting somewhat of a similar reply.
I will keep other CDs posted on what happens when they cross the border.
The CIC call centre basically says the visa is now "used up" and that the date handwritten is basically for how long they can stay inside Canada for that particular stay.
And I think when you re-enter, they will see if you still within the 6 month mark from the date on the first entry stamp and again might handwrite by what date you can stay within that same trip.
In my personal opinion, if they have entry/exit documentation like the US-I94, it makes things crystal clear.
