Hi
I am shopping around for a camcorder, but couldnt really figure out which one would be the best bet, since there are so many makes/models and options to choose from!!
Feedbacks would be appreciated for the following:
-In terms of picture quality and storage, is a hard disk of 40/60GB a good option, or should I go in for the flash drive/memory card option?
-Howz Samsung or JVC as compared to Sony, Canon, or Panasonic?
-Camcorders on sale and the respective store names, if any.
Regards

I would say go for HDD. But it also depends what you like/want. Some ppl like DVD and others like tape. When I bought mine HDD were too expensive so I got with mini-DV. You get better video quality with mini-DV but you have to change tapes after every hour. With HDD, no more changing tapes and transfer of movie to computer is a piece of cake.
I prefer canon for any kind of photography, but heard good things about JVC too. I know most ppl don’t like shopping on ebay but trust me there are so many good and legit deals there that you will never find in local store. When I bought my camcorder, FS and BB had camera listed for $799 (just camera) but I got mine from ebay and it came with 4 mini-DV tape, extra battery, car-charger, AC adapter, 2 tripods, 3 filters and 2 zoom lenses, carry bag and cleaning kit. All this was for under $775 including shipping.
If you want to buy local, try FS or BB. They always have some promotion going on camcorders.

The camcorder market is in transistion and hope it will settle by end of the year.
The trend is that it is moving towards hand held, FULL HD 1920 X 1080, with Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound.
The memory is also moving towards flash than HDD.
The prices are crashing and the quality of the lower end is also improving substantially.
At this point I will not invest money on a costly camcorder as I'll get a similar one at nearly 20% of the same price by this Christmas.
I have found that they are using the FLIP brand hand held HD camcorder in the show called THE VIEW for the special reports. The quality is really good and it is sold in Walmart.
The most popular hand held FULL HD camcorder is of SONY http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10105581&catid=. The price is outrageous and if you see the reviews you'll find that a cheap camcorder INSIGNIA http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10110804&catid=also sold in FUTURE SHOP gives some what equivalent performance at quarter the price.
If I were you I'll buy this at Tigerdirect http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4523617&Sku=F93-1014and use it until the SONY's and Canons settle the price war.
The same applies to LCD TV's also. The best value for money product in the market being VIZIO and it is available in Walmart.
The same applies to NETBOOKS with Dell crashing the price of its 10\" netbooks with Windows XP and also 8 GB SSD - Solid State Drives at around CAD $ 300. The recent comparison study in Toronto based local TV found that the Samsung Netbooks were value for money at $500 eventhough they have HDD of 160GB purely based on 7 Hours + battery life.
But the reviews on the Dell 8.9\" - 8GB Solid State Drive is Exceptional.
Hope this helps!.
