I had applied for my parents immigration. Currently the file is in Delhi from Last year Dec 2007. My parents did their medicals in June and in Sep CHC delhi asked to submit the passports.

My Dad had served in the Indian military for 28 years. I came to know from discussion forums that it took more than 1 year to get background check clear for military personal. In the mean time the medicals are going to expired and they have to redo their medicals in July/Aug 2009.

CHC Delhi can take their time, we have no problem but can my parents asked CHC delhi to send back their passports so that i can apply for their visitor visa. I am the only son and i have two childrens, my parents want to spend time with the grand children's.

Asking passport back will have any negative impact.

Asking passport back won't have any effect on application - if at all it is possible to get it back. However it will delay your process even further for sure.

I know, You must be preparing yourself for next step just to cover up what ifs.

So is background check done? I am not clear on that. I guess it is not.

Here is my take -
If Background check is pending for military personnel then, I think, even Visitor visa will be denied as PR application is approved and only one major stumbling block pending before decision can be made.
If I think as CIC Officer - I would want all Vistors to return back. But I already know that you want them to stay here. What if background check fails - I am screwed. Person is already in Canada when I can't clear PR Application.

At the same time - Visitor Visa application is like buying Lottery. You can take chance.

I am not going ask the passport back. Leave it on luck. I will add one more year in the processing time and wait.
