Any dealer is good as long as you get good deal. And all dealers do price match as well, so do your home work on the net and grab the deal.

I thought I saw the Canon Rebel at Factorydirect / tigerdirect for C$550/- including a 14-42 lens .... worth checking out .

Staples off loads its last pieces at a discount .... much like everyone else I assume ..... sm1 mentioned that not only Black s matches price but provides a better warranty as well .... worth shopping around .

For advice on cameras , please visit jjmehta.com and follow the 'forum' link .... attaching it here for convenience . You would get the best professional advice .

Have you decided on which one to buy? It sort of depends on that.

Futureshop, Bestbuy, Staples, Walmart, Costco - These are not professional photo and video stores. But they offer good and decent discounts on entry level consumer DSLRs. The salesmen here aren't the most knowledgeable.

Henrys, Vistek, Downtown Camera, Aden Camera - These are professional photo and video stores whose personnel know a thing or two about cameras. They carry everything from P&S cameras right upto the high end Hasselblads (not sure about Henrys). They can give you proper advice on what you should get based on your prior experience or lack thereof.

1. Choose your DSLR

2. Compare prices

3. Buy it in a professional photo and video store. They will price match.

4. Look up BHPhotovideo.com as well. Although you may get things for $50-100 less, if you are going to get it shipped you will lose that savings in S&H and taxes. As some have suggested on separate threads, you can get it mailed to some place in the US you will be visiting. They only have one store in NY city.

5. Last but not the least and the best thing to do would be to also look up Craigslist and Kijiji. Used cameras sell for less compared to original prices. Because of number of models that come out each year, a lot of people dump their old cameras and go for newer models. These are great, great deals for a starter!

I hope you find the best deal and the best camera for yourself. Cheers and good luck!

Reproduced from DSLR :
SLR is an acronym: it stands for Single Lens Reflex.

Now you know what SLR stands for but that doesn't really help answer the question, does it? Let's define further:

* With an SLR camera, you see exactly what the lens sees
* You can change the lens on a digital SLR
* Digital SLRs have large image sensors that produce high-quality photos
* An SLR has a near-zero lag time, and is ideal for action photography

Bottom line? Digital SLR cameras are versatile.

You can take photos of everything from sleeping kittens to race cars and you'll never be limited by your camera.

With an SLR in your hands you can rest assured that you'll only miss great photo opportunities because you weren't prepared, not because your camera was too slow.

Some prices; but will we pay that much for it?

So, what determines the price of this? It is the stuff it is made up of. Which is the electronics and the sensors and the mechanism that opens and closes and its reliability, and of course the lens and the distortion free reproduction of the output with the use of the equipment.

Are there better ones. We will have to wait and see. So, for the interim, just buy one that suits your pocket and if it has some re-sale value, then you get some of it back or part of it when you exchange for an upgrade. A few sellers will honour the same when you exchange and there are not many that I know who do it currently.

In Electronics, things are changing so fast, what you buy today is junk tomorrow.

Hope this helps you in your selection.

Freddie.
