just get a bank draft in Canadian $ for the required amount as stated by CIC
OR TRAVELLERS CHEQUE (which you can encash wherever you wish to return to)
and in Canada politeness is more important than you can realise.
Hi
I did my first landing in Toronto with my family. We had carried all our documents(starting from our degree certificates to present experience certificate, etc), proof of funds(which shows one is capable of surviving the first few difficult months in Canada during permanent settlement) and some liquid cash around 2000$ for 14 days. In our case while stamping our papers he asked us how much are we carrying. We answered and that's it.
Do remember one thing, give the particular officer the 2 lists Goods-to-follow list and the goods you will be carrying with you eg. personal items. Check out http://www.settlement.org" rel="nofollow">LINK website.
Good Luck.
Dear Freddie,,I have done a cheque and things are all good,,thnx alot for your help,,no delays, no searching. i just cant thank you enough. However, there,s some thing about the jewellery,,we have bough some golden items for my wife and we have the invoices of these items, where it,s mentioned, how many grams,, and how much is each,,,as we are in an arab country it,s all written in Arabic yet there are translation in english in front of the Arabic word/s,,,will that be enough for the immigration officer or he would ask for some thing else?
And,, what are the goods to follow? what are the things that i should be mentioning and the things that i should not?

Another thing,, Ihave my child,s birt certifiate with the vaccinations he took so far on the back side [ this is how it is where i live], these vaccinations are not translated,,, do you recommned me to translate it or the doctor will trust me saying the child has took such and such vaccinations?
I believe we are ready and every ting is nicely in place, so thnx alots.
P.S. We will be flying on the 9th on Alitalia,be in toronto 15:45 p.m.
any body coming!
You don't have to know everything. But it is good to know most of it and make a thorough job of it, when you do the same.
Here is something called 'I DECLARE' : http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5056-eng.html
Just go through it and read a little bit and you will know what you did so far. That is for refreshing your memory.
The normal process that we go through here when we fly or cross the border and return back. http://www.gtaa.com/en/travellers/arriving/tax_declarations/
The card resembles the specimen : http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/e311-eng.pdf
You declare ALL of the items that you are carrying. Also make a list of all of the items for your reference. (This is in case any baggage is lost by the airlines) Now you put the price alongside and add all of the dollars (Rupees, Dhirams etc.,) Total everything in Canadian Dollars (Approximation will do) That is filled in the dollar column. If they ask to see the items then show it to them. One in a hundred they might do it. Also declare the money that you are bringing in person.
Get all of the translations done while you are there. That is in regards to the educational certificates and the Vaccination certificates that are written in Arabic.
Keep a copy for your self, in case anyone will ask you about it.
Thanks for giving me the boost. Now my cap does not fit me. I need a new and bigger hat.
On the 9th of every month, I take a day off. But our thoughts and good wishes are there with you when you land here in Canada. Welcome to Canada.
Freddie.
