Why did the bank advise you not to use TC? I was thinking of doing a mix of TC and cash, do you think I should convert to US dollars or just use canadian dollars? I have heard some horror stories of opening NRI accounts with CTI NRI and that it took a long time and you needed to have a minimum balance.

PC financial charges 12 dollars to send me the travellers cheques..is that an okay price?

I had to bring a bigger amt by draft. So paying 1% for TC was expensive.

PC interac does NOT work in India, CIBC does.
Call your bank before you leave and let them know so that it is not blocked

Why pay commisions for double conversion? Convert CAD to USD and then USD to INR?

Okay so your suggestion is to just use canadian travellers cheque and take canadian dollars then? I thought it wouldnt be accepted thats why I thought I should take US dollars.

Isn't PC same as CIBC... after all the banking is handled by CIBC.

I haven't been to India for some time now, but as far as i remember i have never seen interac logo on any ATM's .... can you use CIBC interac in India!! I know you can use mastercard , visa and maestro in most of the ATM's in India.
