CD's,
I drive daily to work in the 401 (beyond Halton region). Due to the recent snow, the 401 (along that stretch) is in a very bad shape and the municipality os repairing those roads. To this end, they have scraped the road to put a new layer of tar. A lot of loose small gravel stones abund in plenty there and one such stone hit me wheile was going in 110 to 120 km / hr. My passenger side area of the windscreen has about 10 to 12 inches high crack. The windshield did not crumble.
Does any CD know a very cheap mechanic who can replace this windshield of low price. The car is a toyota corolla 1999 model.
OTOH, Will it work cheaper to get the windshield from a scrap dealer and than take it to a mechanic who will replace it?
Also I would like to know if I can sell a car like this to some one else without getting it fixed. My car also has a medium dent on the front mud guard.
If I canot sell it without getting it fixed, the best option for me would be to junk the car when I leave Canada.
Any ideas appriciated
Peace out

Many of these guys who work at Auto Glass repair shops do private work. You can pay them cash and usually the cost is about 60% of what you would pay to the shop. I knew of one such person in my apartment but he does not live here any more.

Hi TK ,
Seeling a car with a broken windshield is not a problem as long as buyers agree . BUT one cannot transfer the car in his name till somebody issues a safety certificcate ( which includes integrated windshield ) ..
I also have the same problem in my recently bought van . So if you come across anyone please let me know as well ..

On the highways, I generally go from 130 km to 140 km / hr. I noticed that the Glass crack gets bigger and bigger with this speed. It is now around 2' (60 cms) long. Only the outer glass shell is cracked. I see that at speeds of 100 - 110 km/ hr. It does not spread at all. So I have reduced my speed to that.
I received a quote from a mechanic near my office. He asked for $280 for parts and labour in full.
I googled and found a secondhand car part dealer (Japanese) by the name of Diamond Auto parts in 401 and Dixie. He quotes me $120 for the glass and $80 for the labour. He can do it in 2 hours time.
I asked another one in Brampton and he quoted me $150 for the glass alone.
Hope this helps someone with a windshield broken Japanese car
