Friends,

We recently moved from US in july 2007. While filling the forms to get the Canada child tax benefit (CCTB) credit, we filled our US income for 2006 & 2007(jan-july). Recently our friends told us that we can put $0 for the income before I came here. We are getting less credit because of our income shown. Our canadian income for 2006 & part of 2007 is zero.

1) Is it correct to show 0$ as income?
2) What options do I have? How can I change the income reported?

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance !

I landed in December 2005, physically move in October 2006, file tax through HR on March 2007 for 2005 (income NIL) and 2006 (w2, US income). After that file for Child tax benefit and get handful of money.

So I think it depends also which year you landed in Canada.

May be other friends have more knowledge about this.

Good luck!

DesiIndian...

U have done the right thing by declaring ur income.

Please stop thinking about cheating the system.... Let me ask you this

When u were in US have u ever thought of cheating the system there... i am 100 % sure you answer will be "NO",.

I dont Understand why ppl here is Canada wants to cheat the system... Like

Report less income to get child benefits,
Married PPl hiding their marriage and get social welfare benefits as Single Mother.

Can any one explain why in canada every one wants to cheat the system...

How easily TIGERCANADA say why everyone wants to cheat Canadian system

MAY BE, MAY BE, MAY BE because of following reasons

When u apply for immigration, what feedback u get.
Oh! your educations is so good, ur exp is so nice, so come to Canada
we will give u better growth in career, we have much better education system & of course better health care system

After coming here, what u find, exactly REVERSE what was informed

Ur education is not recognized, so get equivalent from WES, Toronto Uni etc. etc.

Ur exp is okay but not equivalent to Canadian system, so go for Canadian courses

Don't ask about health care. Its worse than India/Pakistan. Here doctor can't even diagnose exact problem with many patients.

So naturally person will try to behave with Canadian system the way he got treated

There is proverb in Hindi which says if u gives improper treatment to some one, u will also get same treatment from that person

So I am not surprised when some one try to cheat this Canadian system

Another question I want to ask u?
Is there any corruption or say BRIBE involves in Canada.
NO because, there is no one to take BRIBE so naturally so one is there to give BRIBE

But what is happening in India/ Pakistan, most of the work is done through BRIBE
Why, there are people who ask BRIBE while there are people who are ready to pay BRIBE

So got my point
I am not sure how many CD members will agree with me

So TIGERCANADA, before saying anything, THINK

mumdxbcan, I dont think that issues with immigration allows you to cheat the system.

I agree with you regarding education, hospitals and so on but still it doesnt mean that u will lie and get benefits from government.

I also agree with you that back home we always hear good things about west . but have you ever heard anyone talking about the issues you face once you arrive here. Whose fault is this.. Ours .. no one talk about issues when they go back home or the media which always protrays happy life with no issues in west.

I think that if some one wants to migrate to a new country he/she needs to know that life in new country is not going to be easy . you have to work hard make ur future. Not by just cheating the stystem,.

On the original qn by indian_desi, didn't CIC ask for updated employment record along with medicals? I would assume, they have the sal. info. available some where. May be most won't get caught stating wrong income for previous years... but then again, who wants to be the one whose file gets picked up for random review and get caught? May be a bit too much risk for the $$ involved...
