Hi,
I have an offer from CGI - Montreal. In the offer letter they have mentioned that I have to provide them the SIN number at the time of joining (08/28).
I am planning to land in Toronto (21st) and take a train to Montreal.
Is one week enough to get SIN number, If I show my job offer letter will I get the SIN number (or Card) same day?
Please advice...This will help me to alter my landing dates appropirately.
Thanks for your time.
Regards
Crisraj
You can get your SIN right away. At the time you apply for your SIN, they give you your number right away and you get your card few weeks after that. Ask for it at the time of your application.

Thats right.. now they tell the SIN at the time of application. Its a computerized application now and we don't need to fill the paper form.
I did it for my son and they gave the number right away.
Not sure if they do that for everybody.. or just for babies born in Canada.

Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.
I was told that usually they give SIN same time you apply.( if you have an offer letter) or you have to wait 2-3 weeks to get in mail ( I believe there is a telephonic service one can avail to get the number, instead of waiting for the actual card.
I will confirm this and let you know.
thanks again for your inputs

I got a printout at the time of applying with my SIN number on it - two months back. I was told I could show that to an employer. The card itself will take 1-2 months, depending on where you apply for it.
when you apply for your SIN card . they give you a stampped reciept that can act as your SIN card till the time you recieve the cactual card. show that to your employer. by law they have to accept it/.
