What kind of a visa are you applying for;
here is a link which lists out requirements for all visas

http://www.amcits.com/visas.asp

Is it a long process? ... Yes.

-- - But the time lines depends on the visa type you are applying for AND
the visa wait times at the consulates for stamping.

Any other info...

- --- Depends on your luck.

If you are applying for a visitor visa, the basic premise is that you have to prove to the consular officers that you do not intend to abandon your current residence and you will not disappear into the US.

Documents such as verifiable employment letter with phone number, wages, duration and hire date; tax returns, proof of residence (lease or deed, utility bills, etc), financial stability (bank statements, savings, investments, etc) would help your case.

Usually, there is an appointment time which is about a 2 month wait at the Toronto consulate. Don't know about other consulates. If the visa is approved, the processing time is usually 2 days including the interview date.

Hope this helps.
