chandresh stop giving silly advice like having 2 PR's . I remember you said something like this a while ago too about some friend of yours having 4-5 Pr's. Dont do that to people just comment on whether you know about the places or not.

someone like you is likely to have 5 Pr's and not be able to decide on any!

People who cannot think big, or do not have foresightedness would say that having more than one PR is silly. If that was so, I am sure such a person would say that having dual citizenship is even sillier. If such be the case, I can only sit back and pity over the shortcoming of such people!

However, as a true CDite, I will try to help you understand some of the many benefits of dual or more PRs:

1. First and foremost, with more PRs than one, one gains flexibility in mobility, whether for temporary work or for shifting on longer basis (in today’s world nothing is permanent so I will not use that word)

2. If you want to start businesses which you want to make global, it is better to have residency of the country in which you wish to start business. One of my friends who has 3 PRs has been able to start businesses in all three countries and keeps visiting these every few months. It would have not only been difficult, but sometimes even impossible if he did not have PRs in these places. In Canada he now runs a cheque cashing business and is now able to provide franchises of his own. (and mind you, he was a salaried employee till 5 years ago!)

3. Children have advantage of choosing the country where they would like to study and education for them becomes cheaper if they are PRs of that country. Like my friend lives in Singapore but is sending his child to Canada for university and paying fee as a local person, instead of a foreign student (no need of student visa too – and she can work anywhere during her university, unlike the restriction for a foreign student)

4. For investment – banks are willing to provide loans – say for housing/mutual funds – to a PR or citizen but not to a foreigner. So one can invest in more markets than one with the same money and make a basket of investments. Like Singapore allows a Singapore dollar loan only to a PR or citizen, but not to a foreigner, so if one wants to invest in a different country and leverage his investments, one is not only exposed to different markets, but also having the investment in one currency and loan in a different currency. As a PR, one can get local currency loans and therefore reduce one exposure to a great extent.

5. Jobs- If one is in such a job which can take him to different countries, a company would prefer to send a person who has a PR of that country so that they do not have to apply for work permits, which is not always possible in some jobs. I was in one such job and it was very convenient for me to work in Canada, Singapore and India, three places where they had their main offices in. Secondly, due to my Canadian PR, I could easily visit Holland for a day in between without a visa, and conduct my meetings with the financial advisors for our tax haven companies in Netherlands!

There are many other benefits of having more than one PR – but the above 5 will give you an idea and it shall be enough food for thought!

Indian nationals require a visa to visit the Netherlands, irrespective of whether or not they have Canadian PR.

I believe that this is true of all 'Schengan' countries.

Perhaps, you could visit without a visa because you are already a Canadian citizen rather than just a PR?

BTW, having multiple PR's is a risk in the sense that an immigration officer of either of the countries could make a determination that the PR of one of the countries has been 'abandoned'. That's too much of a risk for a person coming from India, as re-applying after losing status could take in excess of 5 years.

No Crenshaw, Holland has a rule that if your transit is more than 8 hrs and you are a Canadian PR (or even holding a canadian visa on your journey to Canada - not from Canada) then you can stay in Holland till your next flight - which can be 1 or two days later. I have NOT travelled out of Canada ever since I became a citizen, except to the US, and so this was all before my becoming a citizen.

Secondly, I have been a PR of two countries simultaneously for over 5 years, and so has my brother been too (australia and singapore). We have NEVER faced any problem from immigration officer in relation to that point.

And as I told you I know many persons with multiple PRs and infact one or two citizenships and they do not face such problems. Infact my ex- boss and his two sons used to hold three PRs and one citizenship - and they were able to expand in ahuge manner in these three countries because of those facilities!

I've found stories that suggest immigrants face the same issues as that in Canada(note: which I personally have not faced)

Just doing some reading this afternoon and seems like there are stories similar to what one would find on Canadiandesi:

Here's 'Atul' - a representative of the 'NZ Hoorah' brigade:

http://www.emigratenz.org/msatul.html

and here's 'John' from the 'boo-hoo' brigade:

http://www.emigratenz.org/msjohni.html

NB: Atul says ‘communication’ skills are important.
John – from ‘Dehli’ – probably wouldn’t think so………

I cannot speak for New Zealand as I have not been there. I've grown up in Chicago and now am in Toronto, Canada. I do like it here even though the winters can be a bit fierce.

I especially like the multi-cultural society we share here in Toronto. I've noticed that as opposed to just grinning and bearing other cultures, people here are more understanding and accepting of it. It makes life here a lot more inviting.

As for employment, education, etc... you've already received a great deal of responses on those to help your decision. So I won't get redundant. :)

ANU.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions and comments,

Immigration to new Zealand has never been easier, prior to selection of skilled labour you have to pass through the Expression to Interests online http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/ . If you pass the Expression of Interests you are invited to apply for NZ immigration. There is a very high demand for skilled labour as NZ continuously faces brain drain to Australia. In regards to job prospects and demand for IT its available on the same website.
Inside news, my brother is a KIWI (New Zealand immigrant) he is living in Auckland, its been his advise continuously to my husband to visit NZ as there is a high demand for IT guys.

Another link to change your mood http://www.newzealand.com/travel/souvenirs/video-library/super-tvc/super-tvc_home.cfm launch the presentation and watch it.

I guess its a common theme...infact, i've read forums in the US which sounds like cd(racism, jobs, cultural probs.etc...no time to google for the link).
Which brings us backto the question about what is 'reality' . Is it somewhere in between the 2 opinions...OR is it created and molded by each seed of individual thought?
