I have a six month visitor visa on a UK passport,is it possible to get a work permit and stay here?I have heard that it is easy for UK citizens to get work permits and SIN numbers.Is this true?cos I don't think so?

If you find an employer willing to go through the HRSDC process to validate the job offer, you can work legally on a work permit ... and then apply to immigrate if you meet all other criteria.

Thanks for your speedy response,can you just mention the other types of criteria required?
If I meet all other criteria,how long will it take to get residency?

- You should be qualified for the job [being offered]
- employer has to advertise and prove that nobdy in Canada is qualified for the job
