Is it true that you cannot work for about one month after landing in Canada becuase no one will give you job without SIN card? One month is approximate time taken to get SIN card, I suppose. I have not yet landed in Canada.

21 days are requried to get a SIN card.

Why you worry about it? Do you think that you can get job immediately after landing in Canada? It will take atleast few weeks to settle down.

Technically you can't do job without SIN, but in practice you can. Only thing you will get pay only when your SIN card is there.

There is no need to wait till the card. You can start working immediately, as long as you applied for SIN card.

They will give you the receipt confirmation when you apply for the SIN card.

In some instances, after applying for the card if you need the SIN number urgently then you can get it by calling the respective govt. agency.

Tis SIN number is like catch 22. If u need an urgent SIN u can apply for an Urgent SIN which u can get in 2 days all u have to prove is that u have to start the work at the earliest, this can be proved by getting a letter from the employer. But this is not going to happen coz getting a job without a SIN is not easy, So pls apply for a SIN as soon as u land and start ur job hunt, If asked tell ur employer u have applied for one and will be getting it at the earliest never tell them u dont have 1. And International students forget it no SIN without work permit and thats not going to be there without a Job offer. So pals all the best tell them the truth and stick to it u will find a way.

I have seen many people thinking about SIN card and the impression that 21 days are too much. In fact most of the time they are just passing like anything.

First few days will be passed in SIN application, Library account, Bank Account, HRDC Center Account, Resume Writing (and rewriting and rewriting and ...).

Next few days will pass in passing G1 test, application for Health Card etc.

Next few days will pass searching for jobs, getting familier with systems here...

So by the time you are ready to work, you will get your SIN card.

You might need SIN card very next day only when you are ready to do ANY (read labour) job here. And for that people have solutions (all imported from India and Pakistan ... work on other's SIN card..)
