Hi Piyush,

Are you working in the area of engineering? I passed P.Eng., Ontario but I needed 1 year experience to get the license. Anyways, now I am in US. However, I would love to hear about the job opportunities and success stories.

Thanks

I am working as Mechanical Designer for Building Services and HVAC because I am under process so that company can't give me designation of Engineer. I have to pass law and ethics.

You could join as a volentier at the starting and you could get job mean while. You have to give more effort to apply for jobs.

Piyush,

As per your post there seems to be job opportunities for mechanical or process equipment maintenance engineers. So, a good hope for such engineers.

Volunteer services...I have already done full time for about 4 months with a mid-size Canadian firm. Companys seem to exploit volunteer services use to their advantage. So, after your volunteer time is up they look for others coming out of HRDC program. Maybe not every company does that but that's been my experience in civil engineering....

You can start your carrier if you know AutoCAD. AutoCAD have good opportunity in Canada in All fields.
After entry you can go ahead

Hi Piyush,

I have applied for Engineering Assessment when I applied for Canadian Visa with Canadian council of Mechanical Engineers and they replied that I should appear for P Eng Exam to work as a qualified prof. engineer. They also said that I need atleast 2 years of Canadian Experience to apply for the same.

Could you please guide me further how I should proceed further. I am a mechanical engineer with total 9 years experience in Quality Control/ Management. Iam also having a membership registration with ASQ (America Society for Quality) and looking forward to apply for Certified Quality Engineer exam.

Is this P Eng is required only for design engineers? Because of Canadian job market situation I may not get a job in proper engineering field, in that case my experiance in any manufacturing industry is a valid experience to appear for P Eng exam. How much does it cost to get through this certification process?

Looking forward to your response

You are on right track. Mostly P.Eng is for Design engineers. For quality Engineer what you are doing is best. After you finish your Quality Engineering programm you have good market in Automobile Industries.

You should not go Volunteer Service through HRDC. You should find out by direct contact with industries. You should keep applying when you are on volunteer. If you are design person in mechanical or Civil, can start with AutoCAD. You can apply on AutoCAD position with hiding your qualification of P.Eng. otherwise employers here will thro out from interview process because you are over qualified.
