Hi,
I am a landed immigrent to canada with Valid H1B visa (US) - got stamped.
We landed here(toronto-CA), just couple of weeks back. My old employer is aksing me to come to US (with whome I have my visa).

But, my wife does't have spouse visa (US). I am planning to take an appointment with US counsellate OTTAWA and want my wife to apply for H4 visa. Does any one has similar experiences.

Regards,

Hi Maheepal,

I did same for my wife, the only difference is we got it from US consulate Torornot not Ottawa. It was a good exp.
Following are the steps you have to follow.

1) Take the appointment for your wife's visa (H4) from nvars.com
2) After taking the appoinment you are going to receive all the required forms to fill and fee payment receipt.
3) Fill those forms, as you have to carry those to the consulate on the date of your appointment.
4) Take the fee receipt and go to specific finanical institute to pay the fee. (In toronto it was scotia bank)
5) Fee payment receipt will be having couple of different parts (for you , bank and consulate), you have to carry the Consulate copy to the consulate as they will be asking for that.
6) Reach at consulate at least 1/2 hour 45 mins. before your scheduled time.

At Consulate :
At the consulate gate , they will ask you the appointment letter which you received from them which you got after taking the appointment on website or after calling them. Show them the letter and they will let you and your wife into the consulate.
Inside the consulate You have to show them the fee receipt, your canadian ties (PR Card / SIN etc) and they will take your application and will tell you wait for your number.
After some time they will call your name and tell you to go specific counter number and on that counter the officer may or may not asks your wife few questions. If everything goes fine, officer will tell your wife to deposit her passport and collect in the evening or tomorrow.
And when she will get the passport , there will be shining US on it.

Hope this will you ..
Good Luck ...

Gary,
Thanks for details. But you did not mention, what other documents she has to attach to the application. Like any letter from my employer from US (with whome, I got my H1B visa), my bank statement (US bank), my payslips for the last couple of months etc.,

Regards,
maheepal

It's good to have, in our case they didn't ask , but they can...you never know about these guys...so I would recommend to carry those docs.

Gary!!
I was trying to fill up the application for online appointment (for H4 spouse/dependent) at nvars.com
I don't understand The last two points. 'Passport Type' and 'dependent number'. Kindly let me know what those mean?

I observe that there is nothing in my wife's passport (from INDIA) first page againest TYPE.

Gary!
You mentioned that you accompanied your wife? Is that a must!?
Or can shoe go alone? If she goes there alone, carring my passport also, is that okay!?
Actually, I should not say this. But I got another appoinment, equally important to attend on the same day same time. So, I can't go to the councellate along with my wife on that day

Kindly clarify
