TD Spouse can apply for, and may have to obtain TIN (Tax Identification Number) from IRS. This is in lieu of SSN and can be used to file taxes (as married filing jointly or separate).

is it necessary for evderybody to fill in DS-160 ?
and
the VISA fee has been increased to $160 from earlier $56 or so ?

-- Not required for TN - since it is not a visa (but a status) for Canadians.

please correct me if my understanding is not correct :

applicant CDN citizen will get TN at border ( total $50 + $6 ) .
then spouse IND citizen apply for VISA at US Consulate ( VISA fee $160 or so )
CDN children get TD VISA as well ( VISA fee $160 at consulate or $56 at the border with applicant )
