I once reversed in a parking garage and there was a car very closely following me ... Crashed into his bumper and felt guilty and agreed to get this bumper repaired ...cost me $400/- and the guy wanted more.

If I look at it retrospectively , I feel the guy was following me too closely-it was a private parking so it would have been max 50 50 and if I wanted I could have claimed a rear ending from him..... but I did what I felt was fair...

So if you feel you are not at fault , you probably are not and the laws would be in your favor as long as you have a witness.
