Hi,
What will be the take home pay in Houston TX if the annual salary is 85K ? What is the tax status in USA ? for eg Married Separate or Married Joint. My family will be in Canada when I am working in US. My wife will not be working during that period in Canada. I have two kids.

You can get an ITIN number for your wife and you can file MFJ or MFS depending upon what saves you money ...

MFS can save you money if you have lot of investments in your wife's name in Canada that you do not have to report in US

I calculated using the salary calculator at this link - http://us.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php

For 85 K salary it comes to 5900. Is this correct ?

Individual Tax Identification Number for those not eligible to receive a Social Security number.
