Entire Europe (excluding the english speaking UK & its neighbors) are having this immigrant assimilation problem.
Language is just a tool of hinderance in the assimilation.
Practically this problem is non-existent in Canada.
I think the problem of “assimilation “Should be looked from point of view of Canadians rather than Desi point of view. I guess immigrants in Germany may claim that they are assimilated. I believe that immigrants of first generation are not assimilated, though kids who are born here or grow here are. One factor that has worked well in Canada is that immigrants in Canada are from all over the world with no single ethnic community dominating and hence not aggressive in asserting their identity. Further, as has been rightly observed that immigrants in Canada are highly educated and understand importance of assimilation. Germany has different problem. Their man issue with Turkish immigrants who are Islamist and with Islamic population on rise in Europe and with a conservative Govt in Turkey, they have become more assertive of their religious identity. I think, for being politically correct, Merkel has not named Turkish people for not getting assimilated. In any case, the problem after a decade will be reversed. It would be German people who would have to assimilate and all this whining about assimilation would vanish. If someone has doubt, please read “America alone” which has explained in details with statistics and reasoning how Europe an probably Canada would be Islamic countries in couple of decades (hence the name of the book” America Alone”)
