Hey guys
I have a very different situation like to share n get expert guidance.I am 55 male doctor landed with my wife n 3 grown up kids in 2007 from gulf.I stayed for almost 3 months but due to extremely difficult condition for doctors I returned alone to UAE and started working again there.Till now I keep on visiting and accumulated about 8 months of physical presence and still 02 years to go . Now I have changed my nationality from Pakistan to UAE where they take away the previous ppt.Now my PR card shows Pak citizen and new ppt UAE.My Q is if I wish to travel to see my family in Canada would I be able to go and can I preserve my residency status/PR card since it is expiring in 2012. Your expert opinion highly appreciated.

First get hold of your old Passport and make a few good Colour Copies for your use. NOW and for the FUTURE use.

Make a Few copies of the NEW UAE Passport also.

Get a few copies of your Birth Certificate.

Based upon these three documents, inform the Canadian Government that you have acquired a NEW nationality and in the future will be traveling to and from Canada on the UAE Passport. Because your Pakistani Passport is no longer VALID. May be they do not allow you the dual Nationality.

Now apply for a stamping into the UAE Passport through any of the Canadian High Commission there, near by. The Passport may have to be sent to UK for the stamping. See what it calls for, and if it also could be done at the P.O.E. when you land here in Canada the next time. Since you are a UAE Citizen, there will not be any hassles for you there, if you do not have a Passport Handy. You might also have other documents to prove that you are a native there.

That should stream line your entry in and out of Canada. Have your PR card Handy when you book your return ticket.

Not knowing the dates of landing, but it is immaterial for us here.... Your family, especially the spouse will qualify for her Citizenship after three years of residence. Which will fall in the year 2010. But do complete the 1096 days. Then apply for the Canadian Citizenship.

After she obtains her Canadian Citizenship, you can be sponsored or enter back with her any time even with an expired PR Card, but with an Entry Permit,/ a travel document and renew the PR Card, as if you are starting back all over again. Cost $50.

NOW Here is the good News. If you are an Internationally Educated Health Professional, the doors are OPEN to you to enter here and prepare practice in ONTARIO. (I do not know where your family resides.) Knowledgeable advisors will work with you one on one to review your experience, explain all of the details on qualifications and assess future opportunities for you. Register on line at <HealthForceOntario.ca> or call them at 1-800-596-4046. Which means that you have to be here.
