Hi,
My daughter (Canadian citizen,) is getting married in India ,this year end, planning to stay in India after marriage for now.
However I want her to maintain her canadian status and also would like that she gets a PR status for my son in law, immediately after the marriage,
What is the procedure I need to follow to achieve this

Do Retain a diary and since we are in the Digital age, take pictures with date stamps just in case you need to know when it happened.

She will need a PIO or OCI card to stay there and be residing with her hubby. The latter, OCI is touted as trouble free, life long Visa.

You said Immediately? Since things follow in chronological order, you will have to wait till they both pass through each phase of their lives, starting with Girl meets Boy.... to Happily Ever After.

You will have to have a Marriage Certificate first and then a Sponsorship Application to get started with. So, start on the right foot and get the basic information package and proceed smartly and complete the forms by filling now. It will have a lot of blanks and they could be filled in as time progresses. That will give you a head start.

Congrats.

Freddie.

Only Canadian citizen can sponsor spouse while living abroad.. So it is a good thing that ur daughter is already a citizen.

Best course of action.

1> Keep pictures of major events leading up and including the marriage.

Having dates on the photograph helps but is not mandatory.

2> get a marriage certificate from where ever the marriage is taking place.

3> Get the applications from CIC.gc.ca and ask u daughter to fill in the sponsorship application and provide the documentary evidence as proof of the marriage..

Application is simple enough that one can fill on their own.. be sure to keep a copy as they sometimes take parallel interview i.e one person in one room , other person in another room and question as asked to both sides and answers tallied.

It takes anywhere from 3 months to 1 year for the processing.
