Hi,
2 months back I bought my Car and went with State Farm for the Auto Insurance (First time insurance). I was quoted a rate and was given my Plan, along with a temporary Card.
But after 2 installments, My insurance rate has been increased by ~25%. I called up the Agent and he said it's upto the head office to decide the plan & head office have decided to put me under different plan/rate based on my driving experience. And that the agent himself can not commit any rate/plan, even though they initiallly put me under a different plan & had quoted me a lower rate.
He has reluctantly agreed to talk to head office but has more or less, conveyed me that he is not expecting any change
Now what are my options ? Is there any kind of consumer court/forums where I can take this forward or anything else ?
Strange .. I thought your insurance premium was decided in advance and would stay constant through out the term .... what would the company have done if you would have paid full upfront ?
I am sorry I don't know any Authorities but a word with the Head Office would give you a clearer picture ... Your Agen should give you a feedback.

I am with SF too. Their agents do not have any authority to make changes; the head office decides everything and yes it takes weeks (as was with my case last year).
Specifically in your situation, get quotes from other insurance companies. You can try http://www.kanetix.ca." rel="nofollow">LINK Check with your agent if there is penalty to cancel and switch. Go with the company that offers you best price.
Even i had seen increase in my SF insurence...kind of confused why they increased...i have been with for the last 10yrs in N.America and no tickets so far..still got raised last winter.
After few rebuttles, i was been told that the GOVT. policy has changed and now they reflecting after my 6month term completed.
anyway i am tired of this insurence payment and started looking for some other agency...but they are all thieves man...believe me..
anyway try PC financials, or johnson...as i myself waiting for some quote and will inform you the details if it is less than SF.
Currently i am having 1000 deductables on both compherensiv and collision which is costing around 150/month.
If i dont get less 100...believe me i am going for thirdparty..that's the only thing i can see to avoid this payments.
cheers

me too same issue with state farm -
This is very common with SF. I got 3 requotes in 3 months - 2 of them in space of 15 days. Nobody knows why this happens, all they say that it is system generated and cannot be taken back.
One good thing about SF though is that they are not binding and you can switch ANYTIME except the current month. This is basically what I was told - if you dont like the rates, feel free to switch. They pride themselves as 'premium' and do not fight for your business. Though I have heard that thier claim processing is much faster and they do take care of thier clients interest - but did not have a chance to experience that myself.
I got better rates with Johnson - but they offer only for atleast 1 year driving experience and without any major tickets/claims.
Shop around. Someone here had used a broker - so try that route as well instead of shopping around yourselves.
Good luck.
