I don’t know about GTA but I lived in Vancouver and Calgary. Surrey, BC and North East Calgary are high crime area. Both these areas are dominated by south Asian (mainly Indian). There are 3-4 Indian women murdered in Surrey area in last 18 months. Lot of Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian kids are also involved in gags here in western Canada. RE is also cheaper as compare to other part of city in those areas. A lot of immigrant would like to move to other part of city after living few months/years.

GTA is very big as compare to Vancouver or Calgary so it must be different.

My original question remains unanswered.

If Georgetown is ethnically "undiverse", I would really like to buy a house there

Why?

It is just a jovial statement from me. But I wonder, if as a Canadian citizen or even a PR, I can be prevented from buying a house anywhere in Canada sans native reserves.

Whether I face a hostile reception from neighbours or if there is an unwritten code among real estate brokers to turn coloured people away from Georgetown is another matter!!

But if Barrie or Sudbury are already "tainted", Georgetown is much nearer to GTA

Hello Meghal
I have discussed this with one of my friend, who is working in a retail environment as a Manager in Georgetown. When he was assigned to that location, there were 8 Gora employees under his supervision. Within first week 6 out of 8 quit because they did not want to work under a person with colored skin. This guy did try to hire some people but no one responded to local ad for almost 2 months so finally he hired some employee from Mississauga and Brampton.
When he started working there, people were very rude to him, they won’t even reply to his Hi, Good Morning, etc. Overall he had a very hard time, after few years now people do recognize him and they reply to his Hi and good mornings but still they don’t get warm with the guy. This guy is having very pleasing personality and has very good experience in dealing with variety of customers, but it looks that was not helpful at all.
Within last few years very few colored people bought houses and started living there but still it is very long way to go.
Legally no one can prevent anyone to buy a house in Georgetown but I don’t think being a brown person I would live in that neighborhood and expose my kids to bullying and hate from other people and kids in the community, in my opinion it does affect kids and their future adversely.
I hope, now you have a clearer picture of Georgetown.

Surrey seems to be in the news sometimes for these things.
