2nd hand car prices have definitely not come down and peple adviced that to buy new car these days is better but with toyota new cars, they offer only $ 1500 discount and that also with full payment (no loan / financing) + new vehicle costs more, more insurance so although second hand was expensive, we had to go ahead with that. It is a Toyota Sienna CE 2006, 8 passenger, 72 K kms, $ 17 k + taxes.

FYI : We got inspection done today and emission test. Inspection had few issues which will be solved in a week and we will do transfer next week.

Thanks to all for their input. Quite an experience !

I wonder why you ( or others) would go through so much trouble when similar vehicles are available from dealers at similar price. There would be much less headache and for many vehicles, you could get additonal warranties too. Do you benefit in any way?

Chandresh is absolutely right, if buy through dealer they are giving warranty atleast for 30 days and 15 days return policy (depends on dealer) and even now a days auto market is bad, so dealer even looking after for customer after one months too.......No headache and you are buying car with peaceful mind.

FYI

aashu,
IMO (and not to discourage you), I feel that the price is too high. I feel that the correct price should have been in the range of 10K to 12K. when I first asked you the question, I was expecting that your answer would have been 8K or 10K.
I would request other CD's to share their opinion.

Peace

$12K for 2006 Sienna? I think you spoke 5 years too soon...:D
But I do agree, the price is more for the year and mileage, especially since it was supposed to be a pvt. sale and expected to be cheaper than auto trader dealer prices.

Anyways, if you have already gone through with the process, please enjoy the Van, since it is indeed a very nice Vechicle. Don't let these few $$ upset your purchase decision.

Appreciate your input and heres my logic :

the links chandreshji sent, one is not opening (so may be sold), one is 41 K kms, seems v good so I suspected accidental car and called to find out and it is accidental car (US), third one is 7 passenger, 17.5 k, 8 passenger is 1 k more, so will turn out to 18.5 K. + gst abt 1 K round figure + their admin fees of $ 400.

ALso read some stories on this website abt how much u can rely on dealer cars too..we focused only on toyota dealres and not auto shops...as dont trust them at all...even if they change one part, they can reduce price of car so we did not have trust....we did compare with toyota dealers prices and thought pvt sale was better ....most of toyota cars are lease returns ...dealer does not give any additional guarantee except what toyota co. offers or u buy additional gtee....

I can paste some links for cars on auto traders that are selling for 24 - 25 k.....

There are few that are less than $ 17 k but as I said we did not want to go thru auto shops.

And besides each car is maintained differently..(they have all details of work done by toyota) , this one is one owner and well maintained , accdt free...8 psngr is harder to get....so fits our reqmts.

we save on gst + admin fees + seller got inspection done $ 140 + emission $ 35...+ will get some issues fixed..... on this web site was said, we shld get car inspected even if buying frm tyta dealer....

Well thats my explanation and what you learn in process is an addition to your self...

P. S. : I called couple of toyota dealers again and they said this year, this kms, we are looking around $ 19 - 20 K.

And frankly when I see a car sales man..first instinct I have is of some1 trying to fool us...take for a ride .....and hidden facts.... and to run away :) although my 1st car i bought was toyota thru a honda dealer.

Ok so finally we now have the van in our drive way. Thanks for all the inputs. Yes on one hand it is lot of hassle - pvt sale - on other hand saves you some $ 2-4 K ....choice is individuals.

Any one knows good / reasonable place to get it shampooed ?

Thanks.
