We are Gujurati family of three immigrating to Canadain in the month of April2009.

I would like to know -

1.Whether I Start my journey to Canada from Mississuaga /Brampton/NorthYork.

2.Could you be kind enough to tell me any Guesthouses/payingguests for my initial stay in Mississuaga/Brampton if chosen.I have searched on net regarding payingguests in Mississuaga, usually they are alloted for Bachelors or for only ladies .

3.As we are a family ,having a 5 year old baby girl ,we would like to have one private family room with bathroom attached and a kithen or mini pantry to be at our disposal for our initial stay. Is there any such reasonablely charged guesthouse/Payingguest which is near by subway or TTC.

4.What would you suggest whether Guesthouse with all basic facilities or Payingguests is cheaper for initial stay?

5.Due to recession going on globally, are the jobs available in abundant?. MY husband is a manager(Sales and Marketing ,Product and Administration) in a renowned automobile company. He is an Enigineer and M.B.A. Are there jobs available in General-Sales and Marketing Field?

6.As i am a home-maker till now. Could u suggest me any suitable fields to start with. I have done Master of Arts in Sociology and have Basic Computer Knowledge. I am ready to do a job as a Fresher. Can I get a partime -job ? So that i can take care of my family and job.

7. Will that fetch us Sufficient money to live in Canada?

8.Can we live a comfortable life in canada according to our professions. Though I Know Canada does not value our Indian education.

9.Do we need a car as soon as possible in MIssissuaga / Brampton/EastYork/Etocobike.

8.Is EastYork region good for starting and savings then Mississuaga/Brampton/NorthYork /Etobicoke.

9.Could you tell me in comparison ,which one is better for settling down -whether EastYork(what consists in EastYork-could u please give information on that) and Etobicoke?

10.What is the basic rent of Basement apartment in mississuaga with amenities like Parking, Internet, stove, fridge, Dishwasher, Heater?

thanx, for considering my post and the information.

There are people on this board who are far knowledgeable than me in answering your question, but would like to give my input

The cities/regions that you have mentioned are part of GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Canada is a far bigger country than that.

Looking at media, it seems that Sasketchwan seems to be the "happening" province, as his premier himself came to a recent job fair in Toronto to attract potential employees. So strictly IMHO, you should try to look beyond familiar Toronto/Brampton/Mississauga areas - in fact try looking beyond Ontario. Only hiccup is the extreme winters in these provinces.

I believe you must be following the happenings in auto industry in US & Canada. The big 3 - GM/Ford/Chrysler have tough time even surviving. Even Toyota seems to have tough times. So Auto industry MIGHT not be a good choice for career at this time

Work experience is always desirable in getting a job. However, in my experience, I believe that in Canada, it is 95% luck, 5% experience while finding a job. It is about calling right person at right time.

Your life style/your expense is directly proportional to the money you make. If you are a financially conservative person, you can survive with bare minimum money. Just do not expect any luxuries or vacations or shopping excursions. So comfort is a state of mind, not a physically tangible object.

No. There is public transit that can help going from place to place. However, if you are working as a pizza delivery person, or want to go to a factory located in a remote industrial area not accessible by public transit, then you need a car.

There might be other people on this board, who can provide more concrete information, but I believe that the salary you get paid is normally proportional to the area that you work in. Also, during initial days (3-4 years since you arrive) you should not concentrate much on saving, but more on surviving and settling down. Because after paying for basic requirements of life, you will hardly have anything to save

So best of luck and keep your fingers crossed. The main thing that you need to survive here is a positive state of mind.
