I am travelling first time to India ...was wondering if their was any theft insurance that I can buy.

I was planning to take my new camera which cost me around $700 including taxes.

Check if your credit card (with which you buy your air ticket) has an insurance which offers protection during air travel.
But honestly for an item which will be in your carry on baggage, I would not even care.
Airports are pretty secure in India. May be someone outside shopping malls may snatch and run but chances are like 1 in a million.
