Hi
I am planning to take my one year old daughter to india. Should i get a PIO card or an OCI card for her.How long will that usually take to make? I will be leaving in oct end. I am a PR and my husband is canadian citizen. I was planning to just get a visa for her but they give a non extendable visa for only six months which doesn't work out for me as i want to go for longer period.
Thanks

If you go for the OCI Card and Pay for it with US funds, I think it will work out better in the long run. But still they will ask you for a fee when your Passports change (Canadian), you should bear that in mind. Ask them about it when you fill the application or when you receive the PIO Card.

Not knowing about your Husbands passport and the Indian Citizenship, I will refrain from a comment.

You have ample time to complete the application process and obtain all of the travel documents.

If you live in Ontario you can be away for seven months. That is the current Maximum time that you can be away in a 365 day period. Call them and ask if it is between January first to the December end.

Good Luck and a safe trip to you all.

Freddie.

If you decide to go for PIO card for your daughter, it would be safer to register with Foreigners Regional Registration Officer/Foreigners Registration Officer if you stay longer than 180 days in India.

For OCI, there is no such registration requirement but you will have to get OCI card renewed each time you get a new passport for your child up to 20 years of age.

Assuming your kid is a canadian citizen, get OCI and forget anything related to visa (so that u can concentrate on other things). Should not take long to get. My kids have OCI and are studying in India.
