is someone eligible for a TN visa (software related job ba/qa analyst) if the Bachelor degree is completed in Chemistry? He has a Sun Java cert also.
One of my colleague has 8 years of experience but has done his BS from India with chemistry, he has an offer but am not sure if he can go ahead for the TN?

To apply for Software related BA/QA job for TN Visa, he would have to apply under the category "Computer Systems Analyst". For that the requirements are
a) bachelor's level degree in computer science, or
b) 2-year post-secondary diploma/certificate and three years work experience.
Officer while reviewing the application will take account into the education. No doubt he has lot of experience but the border officials who issue TN just go by books and papers. There are slim chances of getting TN. However. this is my personal opinion, maybe other CD's can throw more light.

I read in an article where one of the Canadian lawyer specializes in assisting Canadians for TN visa was quoted as follows. As per this lawyer, these following three categories are now scrutinized thoroughly.
"Three NAFTA categories have become increasingly problematic: Scientific technician — computer systems analyst and management consultant."

As long as TN Letter is properly worded and you have required documnets, it wont be an issue. I know some persons having Mechanical, Electrical degree and applied under Computer Systems Analyst were denied visa, correctly for reason that Computer Systems Analyst requires Degree in Computer Science and Engg or post secondary diploma with 3 years exp.
If your degree is outside US/Canada you have to evaluate it to equivalent to US/Canadian.
