Dear users,
I need your suggestions as I am in lot of trouble regarding this matter. I am a full time International student studying at the University of Ottawa. I am Indian but my father works in Saudi Arabia thus I applied for my Canadian student visa from Saudi. They accepted my application and gave me the visa but just for a year even though my Program is of 4 years. They told me that I could re-apply from Saudi again the coming summer when I go back for my holidays. I really dont know the reason why they just gave my a 1 year visa. But now I am in fear that hope they dont reject my visa for my admission into the 2nd year because my GPA has been quite low (3.8/10) and I have failed in 2 courses out of 6. I am not a bad student, its just any student is not encouraged to take 6 courses especially in the 1st semester of their 1st year but I didnt understand the way and the burden of so many courses thus I registered for 6 when i was still in Saudi and ended up suffering.
I do not know if they want me to sumbit my grades for the first semester or not but I am in great fear of getting rejected just because of my grades. My 2nd semester has been better but the final exams are yet to come and I am working hard for it. I am getting an application from the university saying that im enrolled in a 4 year program and as a full time student thus they could give me a 3 year visa. I am just afraid what if they reject my visa seeing my grades? Can that happen? I need your help and experience regarding this matter.
Thanks a lot
What is your University policy on GPA requirements for International students? Make sure you haven't gone below those Univ requirements. If you have, you might end up on probation or worse. Seek the advise of the International Student Office if U of O has one.

Hi Dimple,
Thanks for your reply. I havent been put on probation yet. I need to get a CGPA pf 4.5/10 in my 2nd Semester exams which start in a month to be exempted from a probation. I have only 4 courses this semester and doing pretty okay till now, getting around 65-70% in all the 4. If I failed in 2 out of 6 and got a GPA of 3.4 then I think it shouldnt be a problem gettin a 4.5 GPA this semester. It all depends on my hard work and I really hope that my these exams go well. I am just worried about the rejection of my visa because of my low GPA in the 1st semester of the 1st year. I dont even care if they give me a 1year visa again instead of a 3year, to see how I do in my 2nd year but I hope they do not reject it.
They should understand that being away from family and coming to a different country all by yourself, could make a huge difference and one needs to adjust to the new environment.I was upset and depressed leaving home the whole 1st semester and the new Canadian culture is very different from ours so I took time to adjust. I consulted my counsellor and she said the same thing, she said it was a huge mistake from my side taking 6 courses and especially being an International student. I really hope they dont reject my application for visa for my continuing studies. Any furrther suggestions are always welcome.
