Dear all many thanks for your inputs, meanwhile I was also checking and going through the immigration law and I found this, this article is dated 2000 Oct.
\"Our two concerns with respect to residency have to do with international officials, permanent residents of Canada, on assignment abroad on behalf of international organizations. The Citizenship Act does not recognize this situation and we think that it should. I will give you a real-life example, that of a foreign citizen who reportedly worked 40 years for a foreign country and was a permanent resident of Canada all the while. Each time he came back to Canada for his holidays, he had to apply for a returning resident permit. For 40 years, year after year, he applied for one returning-resident permit after another. After 40 years, his citizenship application was denied.\"
According to which it is clear that one can maintain his residency(Not for the purpose of citizenship) , if he is working abroad for an INT organization, but I just want to make sure if some one has any experience with situation like this.
Here is the link to the complete article which is 56 pages long:

Gags .... this article is dated 2000 .... i would be carefull in taking this as something taht would be applicabe now
If you check my link above ( for CIDA) you will see that they allow PR's to apply for a lot of overseas positions .... so my guess would be that those positions would be alright for residency purposes. However at the bottom they have positions for UN agencies and for those they are only asking citizens to apply.
I guess CIDA bascially sends you for most of these positions .... so for residency pirposes you are assigned to or for CIDA. but if you work got UN, you are prettty much on your own ..... UN is an independent organisation .... unless ofcourse you are sent ...on deputation by the canadian government. So it would depend on basically who you are working for (organisation).
Dear puttoo, many thanks for the links & your posting.
I am trying to get in touch with WUSC peoples and update this posting whenever I'll get some clear information Neg- or Pos+.
Once again thanks to everyone for there efforts to post, and please update if some one got some info.
Hi,
While searching Charcha I came across this post and saw TK took my name for any suggestions.
Though I work for WHO in a Latin American country but I'm not sure if working with UN satisfies the residency status. We never thought of this cause my husband works for a Canadian company in the same city.
For a logical point of you I'll totally agree with Putto, time to time we do have consultants from CIDA come in and work here but I haven't come across a case like yours. Are you an international staff or a local staff for UN? I think that can also make a difference.
If you have found any answers to it then please share with us on the board. They'll be really helpful.
Thanks.....................Jona
