I'm writing this from Chennai, India. I have my PhD in Polymer Science from USA(where I have lived for 8years), and my MBA in HRD from XIM, India. I'm in the process of migrating to Canada, hopefully by the end of this year. I have both research and marketing background for polymer/plastics related areas with more than a decade of experience in India.
Which are the areas in Canada do I target for obtaining an employment?
Can anybody suggest to me the locations in Canada which might be suitable for chemicals, polymers, plastics and other related industries.

Dont mind my asking you such a question: Are u not happy in India. What is the reason that makes u come to this place.
The reasson I am asking such questions which may sound bad to you is because dont come with very high hopes to this country. U have to be very lucky to get a good job here.
Dont mind but there are many PHD holder driving taxi and adoing labour jobs in plastic industry.
Yes plastic industry is quite good here but u have to consider your age factor as well.You might have to start from scratch......beleive me.
Well the above might sound demotivating but thats a fact.
My humble request would be to analyse pros and cons before u take such a step.

Dear Dr,
My brother/friend Pranav has given his inputs, allow me the liberty of adding to it. Whilst it is a well known fact that PhD's are driving taxi's in Toronoto, find out how many really possess the social skills to integrate into Canadian society. Unfortunately, not many give credence to the fact that not only is a good command over English IMPERATIVE to a successful migration to Canada, it is equally important to be aware of the social mores of Canadian life. Just one example, back home people would drop in at home un-announced. It was part of our beloved Indian tradition and culture. Not so here. In Canada, people will not take kindly to this imposition. This is just one example. Trust me, there are several more. It pains me when I see more qualified desi's who take the back seat because of these reasons.
Having said that, welcome to Canada!
May you prosper from your move!

There are many doctors driving cab - this is reality. Just yesterday someone told me that he met an ex IAS officer doing labour job.
The second fact is - after surviving in Canada for 6 months to a year - everyone finds his/her own way and start progressing towards unpreceeded success.
The only problem is first six months and your mind status during that period. There are many people who believe that they should get same status (in job) as they were getting in India (home country) and they get easily frustated. On other side there are many people who are prepared to do whatever needed to do in Canada, but altimatley getting the status they desire.
If you have read stories on this site, you can easily conclude that you might have to start with much lowere level and they with your increased knowledge about this country, your better (developed) communication skills, and having canadian experience (not mater what field you worked in) you will definately get a job you wanted.
Just think - if your Chennai if you are moving to Ahmedabad - you will need some time to settle down, even though both are in same country, so you can anticipate such things when you move here.

Experiences with Canada is very huge subject. I have noticed people having difficulties evenif they have came here from UK. In your case you have huge experience behind you. That might be negative here - as many times people having much more experience does not find suitable job (senior level) at the same they don't like to work at junior level.
I am not sure, but this is strange country that way. On other side, there are many people adjusted in Canada without much problem. I am here in this country since last 3 years and always worked on the filed I am expert in - at the same capacity. So everything is up to you.
Evaluate youself. I am sure you must have read articles on this site. Conclude your-self, where others are, and where you can see yourself fitting-in..

I don't know how old you are or when you did your ph.d in the US.
Lets analyze.
Indian experience is useless here.
But amercian degree is useful.
We don't know how good is the job market in research field.
Your US ph.d degree can fetch you a job as an assistant to some professor in his project. You may try to look for such opportunities in chemical Engg. faculties. After gaining the canadian experience, you may get a breakthru somewhere and find some job close to what you are doing right now in India.
Keep fingers crossed, but yes, start any job you get once you come here. Job market is very bad these days.
